Exegesis vs Eisegesis
Exegesis - to lead out of - the interpreter is led to his conclusions by following the text because he concerns himself with the discovery of the true meaning of the text, respecting grammer, syntax and setting.
Eisegesis - to lead into - interpretation on a subjective, non-analytical reading. The interpretor injects his own ideas into the text, making it mean whatever he wants. This person is therefore only concerned with making a point, even at the expense of the meaning of words.
Only exegesis does justice to the text. Eisegesis is the mishandling of the text and normally leads to misinterpretation.
