Aramaic Targums

The word "Aramaic" off course refers to the language and the word "Targum" refers to translation. The word therefore literally refers to the Aramaic Translations of the Hebrew Scriptures.

Note specifically that this translation is not a transliteration since this copy uses the same writing system as the original old testament.

The interesting element of these copies is that they employ certain words which are not found in the Hebrew scripts because they originate from a different context. The Aramaic texts were implemented after the Babylonian exile. The children of Jacob did no longer have their support structure around them and there was no way to maintain their cultural and structural systems.
